WHAT WE TREAT
Neck Pain
Neck and shoulder pain are common musculoskeletal conditions that can substantially impair daily activities, including work, driving, sleep, and lifting. Symptoms vary from mild stiffness to severe, radiating discomfort that limits mobility.
Common Causes of Neck Pain
Muscle strains
Often caused by poor posture, prolonged sitting, stress, or sudden movements, these issues create tight, painful muscles around the neck and shoulders.
Muscle spasm
Protective tightening of the muscles around the neck and upper back can cause sharp pain and restricted movement. Manual therapy, mobility work, and targeted exercises often provide relief.
Joint stiffness (facet joint irritation)
The small joints in the neck can become irritated or restricted, causing localised pain or discomfort that may radiate to the shoulder or upper back.
Poor posture & movement patterns
Extended periods at a desk, frequent device use, or repetitive tasks can create movement habits that strain the neck and shoulders. Postural coaching and movement retraining often lead to significant improvement.
Cervical disc issues
Age-related changes or disc irritation in the neck can cause pain, numbness, or tingling that may radiate into the shoulder, arm, or hand. Guided rehabilitation is often effective.
Nerve irritation or “trapped nerves”
Pressure or inflammation around nerves in the neck can cause radiating pain, pins and needles, or arm weakness. Early assessment and treatment are important for optimal recovery.
Injuries
Motor collisions and sporting injuries can often result in whiplash, characterised by neck pain, stiffness, and tenderness from the sudden backwards-and-forward movement of the head, which strains the neck’s soft tissues.
Arthritis (cervical spine or shoulder)
Degeneration of the joints in the neck or shoulder can cause stiffness, reduced range of motion, and persistent discomfort.
