WHAT WE TREAT
Children & Youth Sports Injuries
Growth Plate–Related Injuries (Apophyseal Injuries)
Growth plate injuries occur during periods of rapid growth, when muscles and tendons place increased traction on areas of developing bone. These conditions are common in active children and adolescents and are not seen in adults.
Osgood–Schlatter’s Disease
Location:
- Front of the shin, just below the kneecap
Symptoms:
- Localised pain and swelling
- Pain during running, jumping, squatting, or kneeling
- Tenderness over the bony prominence
Sever’s Disease (Calcaneal Apophysitis)
Location:
- Heel bone
Symptoms:
- Heel pain during running, jumping, or hopping
Bone stress Injury
It is not uncommon for children to get a bone stress injury (often called a stress fracture), especially during a big growth spurt when the bones get longer and the bone is not as strong or able to tolerate sudden changes in activity. Bone stress injury is the most common cause of low back pain in sporty children , especially in sports involving arching of the lower back such as cricket, tennis serving, gymnastics and kicking a ball.
Muscle Strains & Soft-Tissue Injuries
These injuries are common in sport and often occur during periods of rapid growth or sudden increases in training intensity.
