Pilates
With Kaylan
At Active Health in Edinburgh, we offer a range of therapies that support recovery, strength, and long-term wellbeing — and Pilates is one of the most effective additions to that approach. Pilates is a holistic exercise method designed to lengthen, strengthen, and restore balance in the body. It’s an excellent complement to physiotherapy or massage therapy, or simply a stand-alone way to improve movement and prevent injury.
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a mindful, whole-body movement method built around stability, control, and breath awareness. Each exercise begins from a strong central core — the lumbo-pelvic region (your lower spine and pelvis). By maintaining this stability while performing smooth, controlled movements, you retrain the body to move more efficiently and reduce unhealthy movement patterns.
With consistent practice, these improvements naturally carry over into everyday movement, posture, sports performance, and injury prevention.
How We Teach Pilates at Active Health
Pilates can be taught in two ways: matwork and machine-based.
At Active Health, we specialise in Matwork Pilates, using bodyweight exercises and small pieces of equipment to build strength, mobility, and flexibility. All sessions take place on an exercise mat and are tailored specifically to your needs.
We offer one-to-one Pilates sessions. This individualised approach allows our physio-trained Pilates instructor to focus entirely on you — your goals, your ability, your injuries, and your long-term progress.
If your physiotherapist or remedial massage therapist has recommended Pilates, they will work closely with our instructor to ensure your programme complements your treatment plan. If you come directly for Pilates, our instructor will assess you and design a programme suited to your body and aims.
Who Is Pilates For?
Pilates is suitable for all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a long-term condition, supporting an active lifestyle, or simply wanting to feel stronger and more balanced, Pilates can help.
