What to Expect at Your Assessment
When you attend an assessment at Active Health, one of our friendly, professional physiotherapists will carry out a comprehensive initial appointment.
The first session is slightly longer to allow plenty of time for you to describe your symptoms, how they began, and how they affect your day-to-day life. Your physiotherapist will also guide you through a series of movements and may perform specific tests to help identify the source of your pain.
All assessments and treatments take place in one of our private physiotherapy rooms in our Edinburgh clinic.
Once a diagnosis is established, your physiotherapist will clearly explain their findings and work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. At the heart of our approach is collaboration — through education, awareness, empowerment, and active participation in your recovery.
How We Treat
Our physiotherapists draw on a wide range of evidence-based techniques, carefully tailored to your needs. Treatment may include:
- Manual therapy (hands-on techniques): Joint and nerve mobilisations, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue massage, and trigger-point therapy.
- Rehabilitative exercise: You’ll always receive targeted exercises designed to support healing, improve strength and mobility, and address any underlying weaknesses. Your physiotherapist will create a personalised home exercise programme to help you continue progressing between sessions and reduce the risk of future injury. All exercises can be accessed online or through our app for easy guidance and tracking.
- Additional modalities: Taping, electrotherapy (such as ultrasound or shockwave therapy), acupuncture, and dry needling when appropriate.
Your treatment plan will evolve over time as your physiotherapist monitors your progress and adapts their approach based on how your body responds.
Alongside your treatment, we may recommend adjustments to daily habits, or movement patterns that could be contributing to your symptoms.
