Craniosacral Therapy in Edinburgh

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is one of the gentlest forms of hands-on therapy, yet it can have profound effects. While many people first hear of CST in the context of supporting babies after birth trauma, the therapy can be beneficial for people of all ages. Its aim is to support and enhance the body’s natural ability to self-regulate, release tension, and heal.
During this treatment, you remain fully clothed throughout the session.

A Gentle Approach for the Whole Body

Despite what the name suggests, Craniosacral Therapy isn’t limited to the head or sacrum. It is a whole-body treatment using light, non-invasive touch. Throughout the session—while remaining fully clothed—the therapist gently places their hands on different areas of the body to sense patterns of tension or restriction, whether physical, emotional, or psychological.

By guiding the body into a deeper state of relaxation, CST helps these restrictions unwind naturally. The experience is often subtle, and during a session it may feel as though very little is happening beyond a deep sense of calm. However, clients frequently notice the benefits more clearly after their session—such as improved ease of movement, reduced tension, and better sleep.

Some people feel results within one or two sessions, while longer-standing issues may require a series of treatments. Many clients also choose regular CST as part of their ongoing wellbeing and self-care.

The Biodynamic Approach at Active Health

At Active Health in Edinburgh, we use the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy approach. This method focuses on the natural rhythms and subtle movements within the body that reflect its underlying vitality and health.

Your therapist listens through their hands to these rhythms—sometimes experienced as gentle waves, rocking sensations, or shifts in the body’s internal balance. These rhythms relate to:

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

While clients may or may not consciously feel these movements, the effects are often noticeable. People commonly report:

By helping to regulate fluid motion, calm the nervous system, and restore the body’s natural rhythms, Biodynamic CST supports the body’s capacity to heal and find equilibrium.
