Kaylan O’Meara

Senior Physio and Women's Health Physio

Kaylan is a dedicated physiotherapist from Canada with a passion for helping people feel stronger, move better, and return to the activities they love. Her fascination with how the body and mind work led her to study Physiology and Psychology before completing her MSc in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in 2011. Since then, she has built her career around empowering patients to achieve meaningful, lasting results.

She brings over a decade of international experience, having worked in both urban clinics in Toronto and rural rehabilitation settings in Lloydminster, Canada. Her early career included neurorehabilitation, hydrotherapy, home physiotherapy, and complex return-to-work programmes — a diverse foundation that shaped her into an adaptable, compassionate clinician with a strong interest in musculoskeletal health.

In 2015, Kaylan moved to Edinburgh for a new adventure and quickly fell in love with Scotland—despite enthusiastically embracing the national pastime of complaining about the weather. She has worked in private practice ever since, supporting both athletes and the general population through injury recovery, performance enhancement, and long-term wellbeing.

Her physiotherapy approach is personalised, collaborative, and empowering. She blends hands-on techniques with exercise-based rehabilitation to create effective, evidence-informed treatment plans tailored to each individual. Her practice includes manual therapy, dry needling, therapeutic taping, biomechanics retraining, running injury prevention and gait analysis, shockwave therapy, and targeted exercise programming.

Pilates plays a central role in her movement philosophy. As an APPI Pilates instructor, she believes in building strong, stable foundations to improve body awareness, posture, balance, and overall resilience. This whole-body perspective naturally led her into pelvic health physiotherapy, where she is passionate about supporting women through every stage of life. Kaylan is committed to helping women feel informed, empowered, and well-supported — whether navigating pregnancy, rebuilding strength postpartum, moving through menopause, or addressing more complex pelvic health concerns impacting comfort and quality of life.

A few fun facts about Kaylan

My ideal weekend

You’ll usually find me outdoors, hiking in the Scottish hills—feeling the wind, taking in the views, and fully switching off. Afterwards, there’s nothing better than warming up in a cosy pub with good food, a roaring fireplace, and plenty of laughs.

I love staying active and trying different ways to move—climbing, hill-walking, cycling, and running keep me fit and refreshed. I also play ultimate frisbee for a social boost and enjoy pottery when I want to slow down and get creative

I’d probably be a dog walker. There’s something uplifting about the pure, uncomplicated joy of a dog racing around in nature, and being part of that happiness every day would be amazing.

Xena, our Jackapoo, is such a fun character and keeps us laughing. One minute she’s a wild puddle-loving adventurer, the next a couch-dominating princess or a fierce guard dog who melts when she encounters the tiniest pup.

I know embarrassingly little French from my Canadian school days. I’m learning Spanish through Duolingo and hope that one day I’ll string coherent sentences together

Vibes by Six60 is one of my regular pick me up songs. My husband introduced me to this New Zealand band and we have been to see them whenever they are in the UK.
