Ben Young
Sports Massage Therapist
Ben is an MSc Physiotherapy student at Edinburgh Napier University with a strong interest in sport, exercise, and musculoskeletal health. Alongside his studies, he works as a Sports Massage Therapist at Active Health Edinburgh, supporting active individuals and athletes with recovery, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
Ben has gained valuable pitch-side experience providing first aid and taping support with Heriot’s Rugby and Edinburgh University Rugby, developing hands-on skills in managing acute injuries within a sporting environment. Through his physiotherapy placements, he has also built experience across hospital and clinical settings, contributing to patient assessment, rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary care.
He has a particular interest in running-related injuries and strength-based rehabilitation, and values a patient-centred approach focused on education, movement quality, and long-term outcomes. As a developing clinician, Ben is committed to continuing his learning and expanding his experience across both sporting and clinical environments.

What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise people?
I originally studied Animal Biology before changing direction and training as a physiotherapist — a bit of an unusual route, but it’s given me a strong interest in how the body adapts and performs.
What hobbies or sports do you participate in?
Running, strength training, and HYROX.
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing instead?
Something still people-focused and active — like coaching or working in performance or fitness education.

Do you have any pets?
My family have a wee Dachshund sausage dog called Luna.
What languages do you speak?
I’m determined to become fluent in Spanish one day — it will happen.
