Agnes Lukowicz

Senior Physiotherapist and FDM Practitioner

Agnes was born in Gdańsk, in the Pomeranian region of Poland, where an early love of outdoor sports and healthy living sparked her interest in the human body and wellbeing. She began a four-year physiotherapy degree in Poland and quickly discovered a passion for hands-on treatment — especially manual therapy and massage. Alongside her degree, she completed an additional year-long massage course, building strong practical skills and exposure to a wide range of therapeutic approaches.

After graduating, Agnes spent two years working in a respected gym and spa in Poland. This experience helped her develop confidence, technical skill, and the physical capability required in manual therapies. Working closely with massage therapists, osteopaths, and sports therapists also gave her valuable insight into multidisciplinary care and how the body responds to skilled, targeted treatment.

In 2012, Agnes moved to Edinburgh to continue developing her physiotherapy career. She completed her MSc in Physiotherapy at Queen Margaret University in 2013 and soon joined the team at Active Health Edinburgh. Since registering with the HCPC and CSP in 2015, Agnes has focused fully on physiotherapy while continuing to integrate her extensive manual therapy background into every treatment plan.

Agnes offers physiotherapy with a strong “hands-on first” approach. She believes manual therapy is a powerful and often essential part of recovery — whether for acute pain, persistent issues, or post-injury rehabilitation. Techniques such as myofascial release, FDM, soft-tissue and joint mobilisation, and targeted massage remain central to her work. She also incorporates acupuncture, kinesiology taping, ultrasound, and personalised exercise programmes to support long-term progress.

Agnes is one of a small number of therapists in the UK qualified in the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM), an effective method for treating soft-tissue injuries and restoring movement with fast, measurable results.

Warm, positive, and genuinely invested in her patients, Agnes takes a holistic and individualised approach. She loves helping people feel better, move better, and understand their bodies — and she firmly believes that the right combination of techniques, delivered with skill and compassion, can make a meaningful difference to anyone’s quality of life.

A few fun facts about Agnes

Ideal way to spend a weekend

Being outside is my reset button. A weekend of hiking or long walks in nature is my ideal way to unwind, recharge, and clear my head.

I’m happiest when I’m moving. I train in Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing), and I love running, cycling, and hiking — anything that gets me outdoors and exploring. On quieter days, you’ll usually find me completely absorbed in a good jigsaw puzzle.

I’d probably be a baker. I love working with sourdough and decorating cupcakes — and I’m told I’m pretty good at it! I just don’t have quite enough hours in the week to pursue it properly.

Coffee… and lovely patients. Preferably in that order.

I share my life with Lana, my French bulldog. She’s the “sporty version” of the breed — full of energy, endlessly entertaining, and constantly keeping me on my toes (and occasionally bringing me to my knees!)

Polish and Italian (though friends like to tease that my Polish is getting a bit rusty, despite being my first language!)

Nirvana – “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (A classic and impossible not to sing along to)
