Jo Schaab
Clinical Massage Therapist
After a career working as a graphic designer, Jo was inspired to retrain in bodywork because of her experience as a client of regular massage and a growing fascination with the body and its incredible capacity to heal itself. She gained a Swedish Massage Diploma here in Edinburgh, then went on to complete the Certificate in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage with the Jing Institute in Brighton.Jo tailors each treatment to the individual, drawing from a toolkit of techniques including relaxation, trigger point theory, myofascial release, mobilisation and stretching. She has a keen interest in the latest pain science and is committed to her ongoing professional education, and to working with clients in a way that is inclusive, trauma-informed and compassionate.Jo moved to Edinburgh from New Zealand in 2006 and loves living here. She is curious, friendly and has many passions; weightlifting, cycling, music, dance, gardening, poetry/literature, environmental responsibility, women’s health and perimenopause, gender and LGBTQ+ equality, yoga and meditation.Jo’s approach as a massage therapist is holistic and based on the concept that pain emerges from a mixture of biological, psychological, and social factors that vary from individual to individual. She believes that health is about the whole person: their physical body is important but so is their support networks, environment, attitudes, and beliefs.
