Sara Saud Alshawi
Physiotherapist
Growing up in Saudi Arabia, I discovered my passion for movement and the human body through mixed martial arts, karate, and taekwondo. Although these sports were uncommon for girls at the time, I found them both empowering and intellectually inspiring. My fascination with the body’s capacity for change and adaptation led me naturally to a career in physiotherapy and sports science. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Sharjah (2021) and a Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh (2024). My postgraduate studies explored the intersection of sports performance, injury prevention, and performance adaptation—combining a physiotherapist’s clinical insight with the analytical approach of a strength and conditioning coach. My professional journey has been shaped by extensive, hands-on clinical experience across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the UK. I have worked in a variety of settings, building a strong foundation in musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, paediatric, geriatric, and surgical rehabilitation. A defining period in my career was at the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in Dubai, where I was immersed in a vibrant, high-performance environment that strengthened my specialisation in musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation. I have since enhanced my expertise with certifications in dry needling, orthopaedic manual therapy, and advanced sports rehabilitation. My approach to physiotherapy is guided by two key pillars: patient education and collaborative treatment management. I believe that empowering patients with understanding transforms the rehabilitation process into a shared journey of progress and confidence. Having experienced life as a patient myself, I value empathy, clear communication, and evidence-based practice in every session. Outside the clinic, I enjoy training in MMA, going to the gym, reading, perfume making, and cooking—often accompanied by an overly personalised playlist for every mood. Since moving to Edinburgh, I’ve fallen in love with its vibrant community (despite the weather!) and believe there’s no place more beautiful when the sun shines.
