Vanessa Skelton

Vanessa Skelton

Swedish / Remedial Massage Therapist

Vanessa has always been fascinated by the human body and loves to find solutions to problems, which led her to study for a degree in Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering. In the early part of her career she worked for a company that provided skin cell therapy to treat burns patients. However, she wanted a more hands on approach to dealing with dysfunction and pain and so retrained, studying for a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage with the Oxford School of Sports Massage.

Since qualifying she built her own private practice in Staffordshire, working with a range of clients, from people with chronic pain caused by postural issues to athletes with acute sports injuries. She has also worked at various endurance and World Championship events and has supported the GB Mixed Masters Ultimate Frisbee team in their preparation and participation at World Beach Championships 2017 in France. She recently moved up to Edinburgh with her boyfriend and is excited to join the Active Health Team in Edinburgh.

She is a keen Ultimate Frisbee player herself having represented GB in 2015 at World Beach Championships in Dubai. Training and competing at the highest level has helped her to learn more about strength and conditioning, nutrition and injury prevention and recovery. She loves travelling and has lived in Guyana, Australia, Malawi and Kenya and also loves exploring the countryside closer to home on foot or on bike and can’t wait to see more of Scotland.

She continually strives to learn more in order to be the best massage therapist that she can be, so far gaining additional kinesiology taping and pregnancy and post-natal massage qualifications and is always reading up on injuries and new treatment ideas. Working with the multidisciplinary team at Active Health Edinburgh is a great environment to share ideas. She sees everyone as an individual and works closely with her patients to get the best outcome for them, using a range of techniques to free up tight tissues to rebalance posture and restore function in joints, leading to a reduction in pain. Vanessa’s massage treatments at Active Health in Edinburgh will make your body feel balanced and your mind feel refreshed!
