BSc MChS Hpc – Podiatrist / Chiropodist
As a child Kim always found feet fascinating, how all these little bones could keep someone upright and walking about. Then in her late teens, as a dancer, she developed knee pain which instantly stopped her doing something she loved. Fortunately however, this led her into the world of podiatric biomechanics where she was successfully treated in Edinburgh with orthotics, which completely healed her knee problems and allowed her to continue dancing. This only further added to her interest in feet, where she decided to try for a career in Podiatry.
Kim qualified with a BSc in Podiatry from Queen Margaret University in 1998 after 3 wonderful years studying a subject that she truly loves. Since then she has worked extensively in the NHS and private practice. During her time in the NHS she was in charge of heading up the nail surgery department where she was responsible for the surgery and continuing development and training of her team. She was also team podiatrist for the Border Reivers professional rugby team and previously ran her own successful podiatry/ chiropody clinic which she sold after becoming a mom in order to spend more time with her young children.
Podiatry has enabled her to travel, where she has gained valuable experiences and treated podiatry problems that she may not have seen elsewhere. However, Edinburgh is her home town and she has been based back here for 8 years. She is well and truly settled now, bringing with her an abundant knowledge and enthusiasm that she still feels for these wonderful, powerful little feet of ours.
She has had the great joy of working within a range of podiatry clinics, ranging from Edinburgh and Belfast NHS outpatients, community and domiciliary to London Foot Hospital. From Professional Rugby players (her husband played for Edinburgh, Ulster, Narbonne, Border Reivers and Ireland A), runners and skiers to ballet and contemporary dancers.
Over the years she has seen and worked with every possible type of foot problem from the very simple to the very complex. Central to it all is the patient, who maybe feels they cannot show their feet in summer sandals or to the person who has chronic diseased feet and cannot walk because of the pain. Every foot condition is personal and important to the individual and therefore very personal and important to Kim. Kim truly loves her job here in Edinburgh and it shows during her Podiatry treatments. She aims to create a safe and comfortable environment here in our Edinburgh clinic, makes each person feel special and brings with her over 15 years of podiatric clinical experience. Since becoming a part of the team here at Active Health, Kim has continued to develop her skills within our multi-disciplined clinic.
She continues to offer a very high level of routine clinical treatments such as nail care of diseased , thickened and psoriatic nails (to mention a few), skin complaints such as hard skin, corns and calluses. Kim also specialises in nail surgery, offering treatment to patients of differing ages and health issues. She also works very closely with the rest of our team here at Active Health where we support each other in our aim to offer the best treatment with great outcomes to our patients.
